Flows well, but falls apart

I got this dress for my birthday, and I love it! However, when I wore it for the first time the left strap broke. I was able to sew it back together but if I'm paying that much for a dress it shouldn't fall apart the first time I wear it.

I am a size 8 and the small fit well and the fabric was beautiful. I returned because it was boxy. If I had a smaller bust 36c it make have laid flatter against the body.
